Title 20 Compliant

California Title 20

Title 20 originated in California and currently applies to lighting products sold in California, Oregon, Washington and Arizona. The intent is to encourage the use of more energy efficient HID sources such as Pulse Start Metal Halide. The legislation prohibits the sale and use of standard probe start Metal Halide product between 150 and 500 watts. Presently, any Pulse Start Metal Halide (PS) product between the wattages of 150 and 500 must use a ballast with a ballast efficiency (BE) of at 88% or better. All of Stonco PS product between 150 and 500 watts are equipped with Title 20 compliant ballasts.

Pulse start products have greater operational efficiency than probe start sources, resulting in a net reduction of 14% in energy consumption without any significant change in light levels. Since the Title 20 legislation is designed to reduce energy consumption, direct replacement of same wattage probe start to pulse start is not necessary.
